We are a general machine shop that have been in operation since 1977 mostly supplying the needs of industry in the area from it's beginning with quality machined parts, light fabrications or repairs. As the economy has changed, we have needed to change with it. Some of the industrial companies have left the area or have closed their doors over the years.


We still work with local industrial customers producing their parts and repairs. One of our customers, a local family owned coal and oil boiler manufacturer in the area, headed by three generations over the years, has been doing business with us since 1979. Over the past several years, we have developed a line of quality Gravely after-market tractor parts to supply the needs of Gravely owners everywhere. Entering the world market a couple of years ago, our products are now covering the globe with sales as close as Canada to as far away as Australia.

In the world of Gravely we are becoming known as the problem solvers. An example of this is pictured here. This is an adapter to connect the old style snow plow blade to the newer quick hitch walk behind machines. The unit, developed by Cogan Valley Machine Company because a dealer had asked us to solve a problem for him.

The shipper shaft assembly is mounted on the advance casting of the models "L", "C", and 500, 5000 series two wheel tractors, plus the 400 series 4 wheel rider tractor. Its function is to rotate 180 degrees transmitting motion to the trunnion block which controls the PTO clutch. These shipper shaft assemblies were operated one of two ways. Either with a short handle threaded into the shipper shaft body or with a control rod or lever located at the operator position. Shipper Shaft Shifter Arm Spacer Bushing is mounted on top of one side of the shipper shaft support guide that is located at the base of the shipper shaft assembly mounted on the advance casting of the models "L", "C", and 500, 5000 series two wheel tractors, plus the 400 series 4 wheel rider tractor. These shipper shaft shifter arm spacer bushing were machined with two different size mounting holes, either for 1/4" or 5/16" mounting bolts, and two different heights, subject to the model it was installed. Its function is to hold the remote shift arm as it moves to rotate the shipper shaft body 180 degrees, transmitting motion through to the trunnion block which controls the PTO clutch. These shipper shaft assemblies were operated one of two ways; either with a short handle threaded into the shipper shaft body or with a control rod or lever located at the operator position. These spacer bushings are used with the latter.

As with many of our items, this shipper shaft shifter arm spacer bushing is made of 4140 chrome-moly steel. It has been hardened throughout for strength and wear resistance.

Cause for replacement is due to the wear created by the shift lever particularly when exposed to dirt and grit from tractor operation.

This is an equivalent replacement of the OEM item.

Gravely Model L #69 Trunnion Block

Gravely Model L #69 Trunnion Block

The trunnion block is located at the base of the shipper shaft and is part of the shipper shaft assembly that is mounted on the advance casting of the models "L", "C", and 500, 5000 series two wheel tractors, plus the 400 series 4 wheel rider tractor. These trunnion blocks were made in two styles subject to the model it was installed. The most common, the #69, has a cross section of 1/4" high X 1/2" wide. The other, used in some later models has a cross section of 1/2" square and a notch milled in each of its ends. Its function is to transmit motion from the shipper shaft to control the PTO clutch. The trunnion block "floats" in a groove in the PTO clutch while the PTO is spinning and slips onto the lower "small" pin of the shipper shaft. It pushes against either side of the PTO clutch groove to shift the clutch in or out.

This trunnion block is made of tool steel. It has been hardened throughout for strength and wear resistance.

Cause for replacement fall to two basic reasons. The trunnion block bearing area has worn excessively against the PTO clutch, adversely affecting its operation. The other, a worse case failure, the trunnion block has become dis-lodged on the small pin end of the shipper shaft, allowing the PTO clutch to wear into the small pin, rendering it unable to properly operate the clutch.

There are operators among you who do not understand that a trunnion block is needed to shift the PTO or have unwittingly lost the block in the gear case while changing attachments. If you are having trouble shifting the PTO clutch, this may be the cause.

This is an equivalent replacement of the OEM item #12601.

The shipper shaft support guide is located at the base of the shipper shaft assembly mounted on the advance casting of the models "L", "C", and 500, 5000 series two wheel tractors, plus the 400 series 4 wheel rider tractor. These shipper shaft support guides were machined with two different size mounting holes, either for 1/4" or 5/16" mounting bolts, subject to the model it was installed. Its function is to hold the shipper shaft as it rotates 180 degrees, transmitting motion through to the trunnion block which controls the PTO clutch. For the model "L" style, the end positions of the rotation are controlled by detents machined into the surface of the support guide. The shipper shaft body has a corresponding pocket in its underside for a spring and steel ball that engages the detents to help lock it into either of its two operating location. These shipper shaft assemblies were operated one of two ways; either with a short handle threaded into the shipper shaft body or with a control rod or lever located at the operator position.

Similar to the chrome-moly steel we typically use for shafting, this shipper shaft support guide is made of 1144 steel, a free machining alloy with properties for toughness and strength. The cast steel OEM support guides tend to bend or twist under the stress of the assembly operation. Some models use a plastic support guide. The Cogan Valley Machine product is machined from a solid blank, cut from bar stock. Though involving more machine time, this process has yielded a stronger and therefore, better product.

Cause for replacement fall to two basic reasons. The shipper shaft bearing area or the detents are either worn, or the guide has bent or warped creating a mis-alignment to the PTO clutch adversely affecting its operation.

This is an equivalent replacement of the OEM guide #10687 and can interchange with the guides not using the detent ball.

These shipper shaft bodies were made in two heights subject to the model it was installed. Its function is to rotate 180 degrees transmitting motion through the shipper shaft to the trunnion block which controls the PTO clutch. These shipper shaft assemblies were operated one of two ways. Either with a short handle threaded into the shipper shaft body or with a control rod or lever located at the operator position.

This shipper shaft body is made of typical screw stock CR steel. The inserted shift pin is a stock hardened dowel pin. The model "L" style has a pocket in the underside for a spring and steel ball that engages a detent in the shipper shaft support guide to help lock into either of its two operating location. This body is supplied with double set screws to typically lock it to the shipper shaft, except when the short handle is used on the older models for that purpose.

Cause for replacement fall to two basic reasons. The detent ball has worn the ball pocket enough to adversely affecting its operation or the shift pin either has hammered out its press fit, worn thin or has broken off.

This is an equivalent replacement of the OEM item.

Gravely 800/8000 series Rider Clutch Cam Roller Pressure Plate

These clutch cam roller pressure plates are used in the 800 and some early 8000 Series Tractor's forward or reverse clutch.

This clutch pressure plate is an equivalent replacement of the OEM item.

This clutch cam roller pressure plate is made of 3/8" HRS plate for toughness. The cam roller pin seat pockets are machined for a close fit of the cam roller pin. The roller pin should not be sloppy in the seats. Sloppy seats create a clearance problem for other adjacent clutch parts resulting in more damage. If your's are sloppy, it might be time for a quality replacement before a repair becomes more costly.

Gravely 400/800/8000 series Headlight Lens Kit

The Back Story

As with many of the Gravely parts we have developed of late, this item evolved from our own need to replace a couple of these lenses on our riders. Added to our own need was the various request from our customers over the past year. This is a good example of the importance of customer input for the need of replacement parts, either due to excessive price or discontinued from Gravely. Again, WE HAVE ANSWERED THE CALL!!

Once again, we have taken an item with a current MSRP of over $60 and cut it to much more reasonable with factory direct pricing.

Description for the
Gravely 400/800/8000 series Headlight Lens Kit

This headlight lens fits the 3 bulb light found in the cast grill of the 400, 800, 8000 series 4 wheel riding tractor. The "G" or 9000 series take a larger lens, therefore this lens will not fit. Many time these become brittle and crack due to sun exposure over the years or break from some sort of impact. This leaves the bulbs exposed to the elements, shortening their life.

We have been told and have seen for ourselves that some folk have tried to fix these lenses themselves (mostly because of the OEM replacement part pricing) by making replacements from a ceiling light diffuser panel with very short term results. Diffuser panels are only, at best, 1/16" thick made of acrylic plastic, not lexan. Though a cheap fix, acrylic plastic is quite brittle and not very forgiving of the slightest impact. Lexan is used for airplane and speedboat windshields for example. For this headlight application, lexan is the best choice available. You know, if there was a better choice for the money, Cogan Valley Machine would use it.

This lens is an equivalent replacement of the OEM item  #11289 with the same 1/8" thick prismatic lexan material.

We did manage to improve on the OEM lens a little.

We made our lens slightly larger. The OEM lens fit rather sloppily in the grill casting allowing small critters like bees to get in and nest in the light cavity. We tried to tighten up the edges of the lens to the casting as best we could to lessen the crack around the lens.

Also, supplied as a kit, we include replacement #10-24 mounting screws with neoprene rubber layered steel washers to cushion the lens some, lessening the stresses around the screw hole.


For a little extra protection in transit, single item purchase of this lens is shipped in a Priority flat rate envelope with extra card stock stiffening, labeled FRAGILE-DO NOT BEND. A multiple item sale is shipped in a Priority box. For first class mail, the lens will ship in a bubble pack envelope.



Available Soon as an Optional Add-on Kit:
We will have a replacement for the spring steel clips used inside the light cavity to mount the lens. These replacements will be made of a durable delrin plastic instead of the spring steel clips that many times become quite rusty and/or break.
